One of the most common questions when it comes to minting Secret NFTs is "How can I get $SCRT?", or "How can I buy $SCRT?". In this guide on how to use Secret Bridge for ETH (ERC20 tokens) and BSC (BEP20 tokens), I have described how you can use the bridge to make Secret versions of your favourite tokens such as BNB, ETH, LINK, AAVE, and even USDT. Full list of token support in Secret Bridge further down on this page.
As always with this privacy blockchain, keep it on the down low, it is a Secret (Network) after all.
Table of content:
$SCRT is the native token of the Secret Network, a privacy blockchain. Secret Network is a so called PoS (Proof-of-Stake) blockchain based on Cosmos SDK/Tendermint. $SCRT is used to secure the network - governance and staking.
It is important to note that the native token of this privacy-first blockchain is not a privacy coin at all. Any transaction made using $SCRT is public, just like most other blockchains, like Solana, Ethereum or Cardano. The privacy-by-default aspects of Secret Network comes from the Secret tokens issued from inside Secret Network. Such as $sSCRT which is used for minting Secret NFTs.
Besides Secret NFTs, which is a rather new addition in the Secret Network ecosystem, $SCRT and the secret tokens have multiple use-cases within Decentralized Finance, Data Sharing and the Healthcare Industry. But, let's focus on the Secret Bridge and minting Secret NFTs.
You can buy $SCRT from centralized exchanges such as the Binance exchange.
In short, the Secret Bridge allow you to lock other tokens such as ETH, BNB, or USDT in a smart contract in specific blockchain. ETH on Ethereum, and then mint secretETH (sETH). The new sETH is pegged 1:1 with ETH but has privacy-by-default, and can be used to swap other secret tokens using the SNIP-20 standard. One example of such a secret token is the $sSCRT used for minting Secret NFTs.

It is both quick, and inexpensive to bridge tokens to their secret versions. Continue reading this guide on how to use Secret Bridge so that you can get started bridging, and minting Secret NFTs.
At the time of writing this guide on how to use Secret Bridge, the following tokens are supported (reserve the right to have missed a token or two 😅):
Currently, there is support for ERC20 and BEP20 tokens, more can be added, even new ecosystems can have a dedicated Secret Bridge. 🤯
First part covers ETH/ERC-20, second part BSC/BEP-20. Scroll down for BSC/BEP-20 instructions.
You will need both Keplr Wallet and MetaMask Wallet to use Secret Ethereum Bridge, and Secret BSC Bridge.
You can find the Secret Bridge here: https://bridge.scrt.network/
When you enter the bridge, this is what you will see:
Click "Bridge to Secret Network" in the bottom-right corner of your browser window.
Confirm the transaction, this will prompt you to sign a single transaction that will lock your ETH and mint secretETH, sETH.
Wait for the confirmation that the transfer was successful. This can take from a minute up to several minutes depending on Ethereum, and Secret Network congestion.
You will not be able to see your sETH without unlocking them inside Keplr Wallet.
Once you have your $sETH available, you can go ahead and swap them for $sSCRT which is needed to be able to mint Secret NFTs.

The different Secret Bridges are operated by trusted, industry-leading staking operators such as Staked, Figment, and Citadel.One.
When you lock your ETH or BNB, and exchange them for their secret versions: sETH, and sBNB. The new tokens become privacy tokens based on Secret Network's SNIP-20 protocol. So, as soon as you bridge your assets, they become private. Not even Keplr Wallet can view them without you giving persmission.
This is why you set a so-called viewing key, which gives Keplr Wallet access to view your secret tokens. This process is what is referred to as unlocking the new secret tokens.
No, the secret version of $SCRT is used to mint Secret NFTs: $sSCRT. Unless the mint explicitly says that you can mint using another type of secret token, $sSCRT is what you need to use.
